PS3 firmware 3.21 is out: say goodbye to 'install other OS'

Posted by S.Noman on Thursday, April 1, 2010

Just a tad ahead of schedules -- perhaps as a macabre assurance this isn't some April 1st joke -- firmware 3.21 for the PS3 is now being seeded to anyone who tries to log onto the PlayStation Network. As far as we can tell, all the update seems to do is remove the "install other OS" option and kill access to anyone who does have another platform dual-booted. Just a friendly reminder, if you fall into that category, be sure to either backup your partition or wait for Geohot to find a workaround.

Google Envelopes turns Gmail into snail mail, wraps it in precisely routed Maps printout

Posted by S.Noman on

It's a fantasy come true for the avid nerd / traveler, but unfortunately for us, it's but a concept in its current form. Syracuse's own Rahul Mahtani and Yofred Moik have dreamed up Google Envelopes, and if brought to production, this might just make the USPS as relevant as it was during the heyday known as 1985. Put simply, the solution would involve a new 'Send Envelope' method of passing along a note penned in Gmail; when pressed, you'd get a printout of the message along with a specially crafted envelope, the latter of which really makes this idea shine. The envelope itself would be a Google Maps representation of the quickest route to transfer said message from you to the recipient if roadways and kayaks were used in place of fiber and coax, giving the receiver a crucially awesome keepsake each time you dropped him or her a line. Oh, and having an 'Avoid Tolls' option would just totally put it over the top -- even if were relegated to beta.

Animated Business Cards (Video)

Posted by S.Noman on Thursday, March 11, 2010

Until now business cards have been pretty boring, and generic, not seeing a whole lot of innovation. They may have a cool font or glossy paper, but thats usually the extent of it.
Chung Dha Lam has created a business card that will definitely captivate anyone you hand it to. Not only does it captivate, but in order to make the animation, you need to actually slide the inner card back and forth in its outer sleeve, thus making it the ultimate hands on experience, guaranteeing your card will awe its recipients.

The Samsung Fashion Phone Tells Us When We’ve Eaten Too Much

Posted by S.Noman on

Now I like a nicely styled, pretty phone as much as the next girl, but the plethora of ‘pink girly’ phones that companies produce in the hope they will lure girls into starry eyed submission is getting a little annoying. Now this offering is rather curious, as at first glance it does look nice, but moving beyond the clam-shell design, it’s packed with frankly insulting features, from a calorie counting system to a perfume matcher.

Sleek-Looking Electric Coffee Machine from Brazilian Designer

Posted by S.Noman on

Francis Ken Nakagawa, a product design student from the Instituto Europeo di Design located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, came up with this futuristic electric coffee machine, which might as well compete with the famous Nespresso machines.

The Electric Coffee Machine represents a mix of traditional and contemporary elements that can surely improve one's brewing experience.

The design of the machine was inspired by the traditional coffee pot. On the outside the machine is finished in black oxide steel, which gives it a nice futuristic look.

The designer made his electric coffee machine 32cm high. It is 20cm in diameter at the bottom, while the diameter of the upper side is 8cm. There is an 11cm space for the cup or mug in which you want to have your coffee poured.

Futuristic eVouse Concept Computer Mouse with Pen Sensor

Posted by S.Noman on Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Meet eVouse, which claims to be an innovative laptop mouse that not only boasts a nice futuristic design but has some interesting functions that will ease your computing.

You can use the V-shaped device, designed by Marcial Ahsayane, not only as a computer mouse but as a pen sensor for certain design works as well.

When you use the buttons and/or scroll, the mouse informs about it with its green lighting.

It would be interesting to note that the pen sensor is located at the corner of the eVouse's head, which considerably improves the grip on the mouse when you drag it to carry out certain actions.

Device that Allows Tasting a Dish Before Cooking It

Posted by S.Noman on

Designer Calvin Chen is the author of the Teaser, which represents a pioneering concept that was designed with the goal of cutting the level of food waste by making it possible for a person to taste a recipe prior to cooking it.

The gadget includes a touchscreen display and a printing system that emits edible flavor strip. The user can taste the dish by making use of ink-jet printing technology that has 18 flavored cartridges and dissolving strips, which, when mixed, create the taste of the dish that is to be cooked.

You can surf through a variety of recipes by using the touchscreen LCD. After selecting the desired recipe, the user should choose the command to print a sample with the flavor of the respective recipe.

The Teaser allows adding or removing certain ingredients in case the taste does not meet the user's expectations. However, if the flavor is the right one, then you should just follow the guidelines displayed on the screen to prepare the desired food.

HTC Launches New Smartphones - Desire, Legend and HD Mini

Posted by S.Noman on

HTC, the company that recently made its Nexus One phone one of the most talked about handsets on the Internet, has recently unveiled three new smartphones. One of them is called Desire, which by the way looks a lot like the Nexus One.

The new handset from HTC runs on Android 2.1 and features a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, 5Mpx camera and its heart is the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

However, Desire has something that the Nexus One doesn't - an optical joystick and an improved HTC's Sense user interface that makes it easier to use social networking services and manage contacts.

The second model from HTC is called Legend. The handset runs on Android 2.1 and includes an optical joystick and 320 x 480-pixel AMOLED screen. It differs from the Desire by having a forged aluminum casing.

The HD Mini is the third model from HTC, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.5. The device looks much like HTC HD2. The handset has a 3.2 passive touchscreen.

All of these new handsets from HTC will hit the European and Asian stores in March. Currently there's no information on whether these devices will appear in the United States. Later this year the company looks forward to launch phones that will run Windows Phone Series 7.

Touch-Sensitive Keyboard from Cleankeys Makes You Healthier

Posted by S.Noman on

The germiest places a person most often gets in contact with are the keyboard, the computer mouse and the kitchen table, but I'm going to talk about the first one - the keyboard.

Cleankeys is a company that designed this touch-sensitive ergonomic keyboard, which, besides making your work on the computer more efficient, plays a role in making your work healthier.

Using this keyboard involves clean hygienic typing. It allows you to remove about 99 percent of bacteria. However, the touch-sensitive keyboard is quite pricey, it will cost you $ 400 and if you add $ 50 you can get a glass version of the keyboard.

Sidewinder - Touchscreen Watch Phone with Multi-Touch Tech

Posted by S.Noman on

As you may have already noticed, this is a touchscreen wrist phone. It was designed by Susan Cho, whose idea was to create a multi-touch cell phone that a person could wear on his or her wrist.

This might be the next stage in technological development but currently, unfortunately, the multi-touch technology has not reach the phase in which it could be used in a device with such a small interface.

Nevertheless the Sidewinder watch phone is still worth mentioning on Gadgets.Infoniac.Com at last for its sleek design and an eye-catchy interface.

The designer says that that the watch phone has several menus and boasts a number of tools such as contacts, keypad, GPS, maps and other features that can be found today on smartphones. In addition, the Sidewinder incorporates multi-touch technology.
